After reading about Microsoft's continued advances into CRM ,I realized I have been neglecting to get serious about the 'work' of maintaining contact and customer relations as part of my WebPreneur business. The occasional emails to my personal email list and the first newsletter to my newly acquired mailing list just isn't going to cut it!

So I spent quite a large part of the day searching for, downloading and testing a few FREEWARE CRM products. Two of the best of them are listed here:

RAPID SMTP
The feature that grabbed my attention in the promo for RAPID SMTP was the ability to launch emails/newsletter/updates, etc. from a program generated SMTP via an internet connection: no need to be connected to your own ISP or anyone elses because the RAPID SMTP web server transmits for you! This allows for both privacy AND sending of mass emails without triggering your own ISP's email recipient limits! The service is web based however you can generate your emails, update your database, and handle a multitude of other tasks [calendar, scheduler, etc.] via the interface. I was very pleased with the ease of getting started and plan to use RAPID SMTP when I travel -- which I do VERY frequently. There's also an upgrade edition available at the RAPID SMTP website.

SENDBLASTER
I really appreciate the interface of SENDBLASTER. The truth of the matter is, I'd read about SENDBLASTER some months ago when searching for autoresponders and the like, downloaded it but never took the time to install it on my computer. [Told you I was procrastinating. . .] My most favorite aspect is the templates: there are 16 'sets' of templates with color variations in each plus 2 additional templates making the selection varied enough for any type of mailing that needs to take place. There's also the option to modify the templates and get additional templates with the upgraded version. You can send 100 messages at a time to 2 separate lists -- quite bargain for newbie WebPreneurs! Mailings can be scheduled and tracked along with other needed features to measure the efficacy of your email campaigns! Of course the templates include 'newsletter' which makes it extremely convenient to create and 'blast' your newsletters from the same program!

Both products will auto-install once downloaded and extracted which makes set up a breeze! Both create databases for you with import capabilities so that your existing contacts can be ported over without any hassle.

For ease and exceptionally pleasant user friendliness, I recommend SENDBLASTER. For the road warrior and those more comfortable with a 'hi-tech' feel to software RAPID SMTP is the way to go.
